Week 1 - bring out your dead Print E-mail

Afternoon all, the TSF Suicide Pool took significant damage in round 1. 9 players died this week out of our field of 46, that's 20% of the field.

In world terms that is the equivalent of all of the wild animals in Africa storming the cities then attacking and eating each and every one of the humans.

First to go were Stockcar86 and Chaz’s Raiders who were killed off by Christian Lealiifano's late drop goal as the Brumbies beat their Highlanders 33-31

A dropped goal also killed off Sidbarret, Midge and Mainlander when Andre Pretorious broke a 28-28 deadlock between the Lions and their Cheetahs with ten minutes on the clock. Earl Rose banged another one over with 2 to go and the Lions 6 point victory brought the death total to 5

Worst was the only Ferner brave enough to take on the Crusaders v Chiefs match. Unfortunately for him the Chiefs kicked too much ball away and couldn't make the most of a dominant scrum. The Chiefs lost, Worst was killed off ... and the death total was raised to 6.

The Hurricanes were clueless as to how to unlock the Waratahs defence. Justin77 and Muraumu's death in this match saw the total climb to 8

18 Ferners chose the Bulls, Reddog chose the Reds. Points for bravery, but perhaps the worst tactical decision of the round.

STILL ALIVE
37 survived the first round and get to choose again this week. Of those 37, 36 of you chose the Bulls or Lions. MN5 was the only player to choose a different team - he went with the Brumbies.

There were 2 clear strategies from the round 1 winners.
Strategy A. Chose the Bulls because they were the safest bet to win their round 1 game. Sensible and very much a 'take each game as it comes' approach.
Strategy B. The 'This might be the only game the Lions win this year' strategy. These players are the long term thinkers who see themselves still alive in week 10. I would pick that these are the same assholes that save an Ace to play as a final card in a game of 'last card'.

Kudos to MN5 and the 18 Lion choosers who also took a gamble on a 'hard to pick game'. That Lion's pick could turn out to be a master stroke later on in the round robin. This of course asks the question of the players that chose the safety first option of the Bulls "When are you going to chose the Lions? You'll have to do it sometime "
