The Curse of Bart - Round 2 Super 14 Print E-mail

Not too bad last week, last minute wins and losses screwing my predications of upsets and 'business as usual' starts.  Yes, I'm talking to you Warrabores and Chiefs, how dare you come back and steal wins, especially the Chiefs, who have not won an opening round match since 1921!  This week the Chiefs have another bogey to bury, having not won against the Lions in Boerland since 1942, so to tip for, or against, that is the question, if in doubt with the Chiefs though, against is a good option...

Anyway the games this week...

Friday 19th February
Highlanders v Blues  :  Dunedin  :  7:35pm
Both losers in the first week, the Highlanders robbed perhaps by a dodgy touch judge who stole seven points from the Clan.  It would have been interesting if they had scored then, but the Crusaders are a hell of a side, and I expect they would have still come back and won.  The Blues lost because they are really, really dumb.  So this week, at home to the clan, it should be a doozy, and I expect home ground advantage should carry the day - beware the Clan in 2010.

Reds v Crusaders  :  Brisbane  :  10:45pm
The Reds led for 81 minutes last week, before losing at the lats minute.  They also beat the Crusaders in pre season, in Australia.  However, they are the Reds, which means they are rubbish, and the Crusaders will win this match, because they are the Crusaders.  It will be tough battle though, the Crusaders getting on top late to comfortably win on the scoreboard at least.

Saturday 20th February
Sharks v Cheetahs  :  Durban  :  5:00am
Sharks were shite last week against the Chiefs, the word 'clueless' in the South African dictionary has the team photo from the Sharks beside it.  Either that, or stubborn, or the smoke signals from the referees have not made it to Durban yet.  They played last seasons interpretations at the breakdowns, while the Chiefs were playing 2010, and that was well, plain dumb.  Can't wait for the Blues versus Sharks game...  But Cheetahs versus Sharks, as dumb as the Sharks are, they should still beat the Cheetahs at home, although definite possibility of an upset here.

Lions v Chiefs  :  Johannesburg  :  7:00am
Carlos Spencer versus the Chiefs.  Chiefs ringing the changes for this game (to keep players fresh is the Ferrit Foster call, but for heavens sake, it's round two Fozzy!), which means perhaps they are treating the woeful Lions a bit lightly.  The Lions were horrid last week though by all accounts, the Blues stoked with the NZRU decision not to contract Carlos, and were never in the game against the Stormers.  Chiefs have not beaten this mob in Boerland for a while though, so a top chance.  If they can clear this hurdle, two away wins to start the season puts them in a better position than usual - ie, not chasing the leading pack, as they usually do!

Hurricanes v Western Force  :  Wellington  :  7:35pm
Western Force with more injuries than the 101st Airborne Division on D Day, almost having to strip Mitch to play at eight, should be easy meat for the Hurricanes at home.  The Hurricanes though, in the great traditions of Stormin' Norman Hewitt, have a drinking problem.  Jason Eaton on the piss and stood down for this game.  Great news for Bryn Evans, All Black.  Also great news for rugby fans throughout the world, check out number 4 for the Canes, that's Bryn Evans the All Black.  You'll be able to recognise him now.  David Smith, Mr once had potential, now over-rated', gets chance 402 with the unfortunate injury to Hosea Gear, who looked sharp against the Blues last week.  Other than that, no changes to the Hurricanes, and they should be sitting on top of the points table with the Bulls, two five point victories.

Sunday 21 February

Bulls V Brumbies  :  Pretoria  :  4:05am
Brumbies usually pull a win out of the hat while in the Republic each year, and in fact I think they were the frist team to clean sweep over there many years ago.  They are up against the champions though, in what should be a cracker match, probably the match of the round.  I'll go for the home ground advantage though for the Bulls, and they'll be off to a two from two start to the season.

Stormers v Waratahs  :  Cape Town  :  6:10am
The Stormers beat the Lions last week, the Warabores piped the Reds at the posts last week.  This week, again, home ground advantage to carry the day in a match whcih I really have no clue about.  Perhaps that is why my tipping is usually so crap...
